The latest issue facing the broader Australian society is obesity, the problem is now presenting itself like never before. It is no longer acceptable to quietly condone unhealthy inactive lifestyles and the psychological and emotional factors that underline these chronic issues. We at WeightControlPsych feel a responsibility as health care professionals to help raise awareness about this potentially devastating issue. Initiatives that promote education and demystification of the true causes and affects of weight problems not only allow individuals to make informed decisions, but effectively empowers them to take control of their lives, possibly even for the first time.
We believe that in order to achieve goals of long term weight loss it requires an integrated health care approach with a strong emphasis on raising activity levels while reinforcing new attitudes towards eating habits and encouraging healthier principles of lifestyle and nutrition. This weight control program not only addresses the physical and emotional problems associated with being overweight, but also tackles issues of body image and promotes acceptance of ones self. Many weight issues arise from poor body image and lack of confidence which requires psychological analysis and therapy to rectify, the first step in our program is to accept that which you cannot change.
